Poker rules

Texas Hold'em

The most popular of all poker variations. Hold'em rules are incredibly simple, so even those who stumble upon poker for the first time can easily learn them in just a few minutes. At first, the players are dealt two cards blind, and five community cards are placed on the table. The game consists of four rounds of bets. Players can make combinations of 5 cards using their own and common cards.

Aim of the game

Player needs to win the pot by collecting the best combination of cards. But this is not the only way to win. Players can bluff by building a game strategy in a way that their opponents will buy into the bluffer having a strong hand and fold their own, leaving the draw.

Start of the game, obligatory blinds

Before the start of every round, two players to the left of the dealer are obligated to make forced bets – a small and a big blind. Interactive games use the dealer's button instead of the actual dealer. The button determines the order of distribution of cards and bets in the party, blinds are necessary for the initial deposit to the pot.

First round of betting

First stage of the game, when all players are dealt two cards and start betting, is called pre-flop. First player after the big blind opens the bets. He can CALL (level the previous the bet), RAISE (increase the bet) or FOLD (quit the round). Player who placed the big blind can CHECK, if no one before him raises the bet. The flop is dealt after all the players have made their bets or folded.

Second round of betting

Three community cards, laid out openly on the table, also being the next round of betting is called the flop. Players can use these cards to combine five-card combinations.

Third round of betting

Next to the flop (the three community cards), the fourth community card is drawn. Four community cards on the table are known as the turn. The turn is the second-last round of betting.

Fourth and final round of betting

The last, fifth community card, aka the river, is drawn and the last round of betting begins. Players remaining in the game reveal their cards. Player with the highest combination of cards wins and takes the whole pot. If two players have collected the same combination, the pot is divided equally between them.

The highest combination in poker, five cards from TEN to ACE of the same suit

Poker terms dictionary

  • All-in

To go All-in is to put all your chips on the line. This can be used in cases when there are not enough chips to make the required or selective bet, or as a strategic move in games without a limit (No Limit games). All-in in poker gives you a potential chance to win your stake in the bank up to your last bet, including your last contribution to the bank. You may not qualify for bets made after you have gone All-in. These bets create a separate (additional) bank (Side - pot).

  • Blind

A blind bet is one that a player makes before receiving the cards. In some poker games (such as Hold'em), a player is required to play blind after the first draw. Small and big blinds are distinguished as such: the small blind is half the initial bet; the big blind is a full bet. The player to make the last blind, reserves the last word for the bet on the first round of game. Blind is also a term given to the player who makes a blind bet.
